26 July 2018 – The WHO country office for Egypt, with the support of the Regional Office for Eastern Mediterranean and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Population and the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), has launched the results of the STEPwise Survey 2017, and the national multisectoral action plan for noncommunicable disease (NCD) prevention and control, 2018–2022.

In the presence of Dr John Jabbour, WHO Representative in Egypt, Dr Mohamed Gad, Ministry of Health and Population, and Dr Abd Elhamid Sharaf Eldin, CAPMAS, a short movie was presented. The movie showed implementation phases for the STEPwise survey 2016–2017, and highlighted the successful collaboration between the Ministry, CAPMAS and WHO/Egypt as a real model of a teamwork.

Following the movie, Dr Randa Abou El Naga, Technical Officer, WHO country office for Egypt, presented the approach and explained the importance of the STEPwise survey for Egypt.

In addition, Mrs Wafaa Maged from CAPMAS, talked about CAPMAS's role in supporting the different phases of the survey. The results of the STEPwise survey were announced by Dr Ola Khairallah, from the Ministry of Health and Population.

The results of the STEPwise survey 2017 will support the Ministry of Health and Population, and other concerned ministries in Egypt, in planning and prioritizing their future policies and programmes for NCD prevention and control and in evaluating the existing population–wide interventions.
