lighting_giza_pyramids8 August 2017 – To commemorate World Hepatitis Day Egypt illuminated several of its landmark buildings green. Giza Pyramids, the Cairo Tower and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were all illuminated green in commemoration of the Day.

FAThe initiative was a joint initiative between the Ministry of Health and Population, the WHO country office and the World Bank to build national momentum and raise public awareness of hepatitis prevention and treatment. Egypt is actively working towards the ambitious goal of being the first country to eliminate hepatitis by 2018.

“WHO hopes that Egypt will be able to eliminate hepatitis as per its strategic goals, we see Egypt as a model to be followed globally in the control and treatment of viral hepatitis,’’ said Dr John Jabbour, WHO Representative in Egypt.

cairo_towerTo raise the public's awareness of hepatitis prevention and control and of World Hepatitis Day, the WHO country office launched a social media campaign with information, education and communication materials produced in Arabic.
