The theme for World AIDS Day 1999 Campaign is:

Listen, learn, live!
World AIDS campaign with children and young people

The theme was chosen to reflect the following ideas:
Listen to children and young people, to what they feel is important and engage with them in conversation about issues of concern to them, including but not limited to sex, sexuality and HIV/AIDS;
Learn from each other, be it amongst peers, child to adult, adult to child, with and from people living with HIV/AIDS, about communication, respect, participation, support, protection from HIV infection;
Live in a world where fewer people become infected with HIV and where child en and young people with HIV/AIDS can live free from stigma and discrimination.
