A shared world Comprehensive ban on advertising From all around the world we see concrete evidence that a total ban of tobacco advertising is one of the most effective measures to reduce tobacco consumption especially among youngsters.In the Eastern Mediterranean Region countries, some kinds of advertising are banned but unfortunately not all. Even when a country bans tobacco advertising on its local and national TV channels, the industry still has access to viewers through satellite channels which local authorities can’t control. A total ban on all tobacco advertising and promotion activities is badly needed in each country. When we speak of a total ban, we mean that the ban must be comprehensive, leaving no loopholes whatsoever. No activity that seeks to promote tobacco, especially among the younger generation, should remain outside this ban. In the following examples we have seen that success was achieved through such policies. Tobacco advertising is aimed at young people, despite industry's claim that it is not
