Leishmaniasis treatment centre, Afghanistan (photograph: WHO) Leishmaniasis is one of several vector-borne diseases, including malaria, dengue fever, schistosomiasis among others, that are present in our Region and represent a public health problem. As well as optimized treatment, vector control interventions have an important role to play in reducing the burden of these diseases.
