About mental health
For all individuals, mental, physical and social health is vital
and interwoven into all strands of life. Mental health is
crucial to the overall well-being of individuals, societies and
countries. Indeed, mental health can be defined as a state of
well-being enabling individuals to realize their potential, cope
with the normal stresses of life, work productively and
fruitfully, and make a contribution to their communities.

About substance abuse
Substance abuse continues to be one of the most serious public
health problems in both developed and developing countries.
Diseases related to alcohol and substance abuse are therefore a
serious public problem. They affect the development of human and
social capital, creating not only economic costs for society as
a whole, including the health system, but also social costs in
terms of injuries, violence and crime. They also affect the
well-being of future generations.
