Overview of Public Health Functions and Information Needs for Organizations Working with Refugees Workshop February 5, 2009  -  Beirut, Lebanon


The World Health Organization in coordination with the Regional Representatives Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and within the health sector cluster activities for Iraqi refugees in Lebanon implemented a workshop ‘Overview of Public Health Functions and Information Needs for Organizations Working with Refugees’ on February 5, 2009 in Beirut, Lebanon. The workshop focused on introducing agencies and organizations providing health care services to Iraqi refugees in Lebanon to the areas of public health to be targeted further during crisis situations and promoting the need for streamlined health information needs in non-routine situations. Seventeen participants who took part in the sessions stated that they have received new information, the sessions stressed the need for collaboration and coordination, and developed their knowledge of organizational procedures. Pending funding availability more activities are planned providing in depth information on the public health functions areas and health information systems as part of the project proposal submitted within the Consolidated Appeals Process for Iraqi Refugees 2009.
