Organizations Working with Refugees Workshop February 5, 2009 -
Beirut, Lebanon
The World Health Organization in coordination with the Regional
Representatives Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for
Refugees (UNHCR) and within the health sector cluster activities for
Iraqi refugees in Lebanon implemented a workshop ‘Overview of Public
Health Functions and Information Needs for Organizations Working with
Refugees’ on February 5, 2009 in Beirut, Lebanon. The workshop focused
on introducing agencies and organizations providing health care services
to Iraqi refugees in Lebanon to the areas of public health to be
targeted further during crisis situations and promoting the need for
streamlined health information needs in non-routine situations.
Seventeen participants who took part in the sessions stated that they
have received new information, the sessions stressed the need for
collaboration and coordination, and developed their knowledge of
organizational procedures. Pending funding availability more activities
are planned providing in depth information on the public health
functions areas and health information systems as part of the project
proposal submitted within the Consolidated Appeals Process for Iraqi
Refugees 2009.
